We try to avoid sending passwords via email.
There are several reasons for this:
- Every email passes through multiple systems between the person sending it and the person receiving it. There is a chance a 3rd-party may be able to read the email.
- Many users leave their computer unlocked when they step away for a bit. It’s possible that your email program could be accessed by anyone walking by, allowing them to view important information.
- Because of all the “phishing” attempts (fraudulent requests for personal account information), it is generally bad practice to send a password via email. Someone getting a legitimate password request once in the past might make it easier for that person to be fooled by an official-looking phishing email.
If you ever get an email that asks for your password, do NOT give it.
